Nostalgia & History > Steam on Sunday (vol 27): Location in Kansas?Date: 11/02/25 07:02 Steam on Sunday (vol 27): Location in Kansas? Author: santafe199 I never had the privilege of meeting Mr Phil Taylor. He was a good friend to Bill Gibson, his son Art and the rest of the Topeka railfan gang of the mid-20th century. Below is one of his trader prints that found its way into the Gibson Collection. The Pacific up front has #40 in its number boards. That puts it somewhere in Kansas, but I can’t place the location. It looks like a mid-morning shot, but I don’t have the right ETT to check on running times for train #40. TIA for the helping hand!
1. UP 4-6-2 3221 leads train #40 at Kiro, KS* in late 1953. B/W photo by Phillip M Taylor formerly in the Art Gibson collection, now in the James T. Wilson collection. Thanks for looking back! Andy & I got on the horn and both came to that same conclusion. It's closest to a location called "Kiro" which used to be in the UP employee timetable. That's what I'll use... Thanks, Lance Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/03/25 15:07 by santafe199. Date: 11/03/25 17:46 Re: Steam on Sunday (vol 27): Location in Kansas? Author: TexasRocket Nice 1953 Ford on the left there.
