Need history of this piece of RR equipment

From reading the tank, seeing the fuel strainers and noting the equipment appears to be an RCD - I'd guess somone is topping off the fuel before it departs.

Looks like the message on the side of the "thing" was only a suggestion given that it looks to be servicing an RDC.

"Astra Dome" is usually associated with GM's "Train of Tomorrow" and later with Union Pacific.  Didn't think Santa Fe used that term.

Term was used in company maintenance material referring to 500-505.

San Diego back in the day.   RDCs ran LA to SD until March 1956 when the great accident at Redondo Jct happened.
