C&O GP9 from the Cardinal

From the westbound Cardinal passed GP9 6016 at KC Junction in Covington, Kentucky.

Whoa the track looks suspect. Maybe being upgraded? Signs of the times. Neat look back.

It looked like old yard trackage was being removed along with platforms at the C&O station (closed in 1965?) in Covington.

When  I hired in 1997 CSX was still of the mind to do everything cheap......sprinkle ballast if the FRA demands it...but don't tamp it in. Call it magic  ballast that falls into place as trains run over it. Sometimes it kind of will...
