On 5-2-95, an eastbound Santa Fe intermodal train is in the siding at Woodford meeting a westbound SP empty coal train.

LOL, asking for a friend, but where would an empty coal train be going in southern california?

Back to the coal mines in Utah!   Coal comes into California for the cement plants at Monolith, Victorville, Cushenbury and for export overseas.

I miss those days, when it was safer, with no thieves running around opening container doors.  Tehachapi was literally heaven to me.

I believe this was during a time when SP got the export coal business out of the Port of Long Beach from the UP. They had a much longer route getting the coal there by running over Donner Pass, Tehachapi and Cajon Pass vs the direct UP route from Utah.

Could have been an empty coal train from Trona or Monolith. But why is the TOFC train in the hole for an empty coal train?
