train parts #83
Author: choochoochas

1 - LV #51143 - Lehigh Valley covered hopper in Southern Pacific's Eugene Oregon yard on October 13th, 1982.
2 - SPMW #5923 - Southern Pacific SNOWFLAKE that was by the snow fighting crews at Oakridge Oregon during the winter months. Photo taken on June 2nd, 1984. Looks like it had just been painted.
3 - SSW cab #78 - Cotton Belt caboose on a Southern Pacific Westbound train leaving the Eugene Oregon yard on September 11th, 1984. Loved this one as an Employee had written "AARDVARK EXPRESS" on it.

Ref #1 - Here's the same car a few weeks later heading up Cajon Pass on the SP Palmdale Cutoff.  Wonder if it got "lost" and is still looking to deliver its load?

Sadly the Snowflake was scrapped by UP at Oakridge a few years back.

PFE_COI - Thanks for adding that photo of the same car. Interesting is the time span between the two different locations of that car.

You're welcome, really enjoy your Train Parts series.  Given the car is heading up Cajon Pass (West Colton to Bakersfield) it does "appear" to be lost if it was in Eugene two weeks earlier.  But who knows...just another one of those unanswerable questions about SP operations in the 80's.
