After this Amtrak train had arrived at Chicago Union Station, 9087 is pulling it out to the yard. That is one of the Valparaiso commuter trains in the background. Gary Date: 11/29/25 13:41 Re: Ex-PRR SW7 working in Chicago Author: Englewood Nice picture, thanks for posting.

Bob Date: 11/29/25 15:39 Re: Ex-PRR SW7 working in Chicago Author: New773 Was CR switching for Amtrak because CR still owned 25% of Union Station?

I think it was because PC/Conrail still owned the former PRR coach yard that Amtrak was using. Amtrak eventually purchased that yard and started their own improvements to the facility. Correct. Purchased not only the yard but the PC institutional knowledge on how to maintain and operate passenger trains. AT&SF across the river and CB&Q across the tracks knew nothing. Only gotten better since then. PC actually owned 50% of CUS. The PFW&C and PCC&StL each had 25% giving the PRR 50%. |
