Nostalgia & History > Three views of the "Acid Train" with Conrail power, 1996Date: 12/02/25 14:24 Three views of the "Acid Train" with Conrail power, 1996 Author: Guitartrain 1. Conrail SD60I-5590 & SD50-6744 are on the point of the W/B "Acid Train", K-201. It originated on Ontario Northland at the Kidd Creek Plant in Timmins, Ontario. Its on CSX's Philadelphia Sub at MP 46.4 about to cross the talking dragging equipment detector. This view from the Nottingham Road overpass. 1:42PM on 3-31-96 in Eder, MD.
2. This could be my all-time favorite Conrail pic. Viewed from the long gone Mohrs Lane overpass, CR SD60I-5590 & SD50-6744 are on the point of the W/B "Acid Train", K-201 on CSX's Philadelphia Sub. Just ahead, they'll "knock down" the clear signal at Poplar. I'm not sure what the facility in the distance was called at the time of this photo. Originally, I think it was Campbell's Cement. Today, its Anchor Concrete Products, Inc. 2:42PM on 3-31-96 in White Marsh, MD. 3. Conrail SD60I-5590 & SD50-6744 are leading the W/B "Acid Train", K-201. Its on track two of CSX's Philadelphia Sub. CSX's Bay View yard is to the right in the distance. 2:56PM on 3-31-96 in East Baltimore, MD. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/02/25 14:28 by Guitartrain. And it always made for interesting pics when the engineer would turn on those red marker lights. After the Conrail breakup, some of the CSX guys liked to do this too.

JB Date: 12/02/25 15:37 Re: Three views of the "Acid Train" with Conrail power, 1996 Author: Guitartrain The "Acid Train" went to a glass plant in Curtis Bay, South Baltimore, MD. I don't recall the exact name.

The Baltimore crew would shop the power and use CSX units to take the train to Philly. So why wasn’t the CP power shopped at Philly? Seems the crew coming out of Philly to Baltimore was headed home and didn’t want anything to keep them in Philly.
