Date: 12/03/25 05:04 Re: Chicago Transit Authority "jitterbug" Author: agent1522 According to my records, there were 4 of these trains built.
5001 was built in 1947 and is preserved at the Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin, IL. 5002 was also built in 1947 By Pullman and is preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union IL. 5003 was built in 1948 by the St. Louis Car Company and went to the Monticello Railroad Museum in Monticello, IL. It was scrapped after falling into disrepair. 5004 was also built by the St. Louis Car Company in 1948. From what I have been able to determine, it went to the Indiana Transportation Museum and was scrapped. The 5001 is stored outside and appears to be in decent condition. If anyone has a few hundred thousand dollars to spare, the train can be restored and made operational. AFAIK, the 5002 is stored inside at IRM as 52, is painted in the bicentennial scheme and given the name Paul Revere. Like the 5001, if anyone has a few hundred thousand dollars to spare, the train can be restored and made operational. From what I remember, 5003 was stored outside subject to the ravages of the weather, I have very little information about the 5004 at ITM. If anyone has any additional information, it would be appreciated.
