Mostly Denver, CO, February & Early March 1974

Denver, Colorado, February 1974
1. The Denver, Northwestern & Pacific Station at 15th and Bassett Streets was built in 1906.  Today it is located at 2101 15th Street in a senior citizens’ residence.
2. The e/b D&RGW Ski Train led by GP30 #3003, built 4//62, retired 7/30/99, scrapped, + GP40 #3053, built 1//66, retired 5/21/96, sold to Helm 5/29/98, rebuilt by Boise Locomotive to GP38M-3 UP #2575 10/21/98, to HLCX #1074 7/22/09, + Steam Generator Car #251, built 6//53 from tender of 2-6-6-2 #3709, retired in 1991 and scrapped, arrived Union Station.

3 – 5. D&RGW Ski Train coach #1015 was built by Pullman in 1915 as NP #1216.

Tolland, Colorado, 3/1/74
6. SD45 #5329, built 4//68, wrecked at South Fontana, CA and retired 5//95, + GP40-2 #3096, built 4//72, to UP #1351 3/14/05, led an e/b D&RGW train.
7. A w/b D&RGW train was led by GP30 #3013, 5//62, retired 12//93, to OmniTRAX 8//95, + GP40 #3058, built 1//66, wrecked 8/7/82 at Parshall (Byers Canyon), CO, traded to EMD, + another GP30 with
8. helpers GP40-2 #3100, built 4//72, to UP #1350 1/31/06, + GP40 #3060, built 1//66, retired by UP 8/22/01, to NRE 4//02, to BNSF and rebuilt to GP38-2 #2011.

Utah Junction, Denver, Colorado, 3/15/74
9 & 10. A Koppers narrow gauge, 36", critter, built by GE 1//48, Serial #29241, shuffled small and large poles on skids.  Unfortunately, I do not have the reference for that data.
11. Then a C&S local shoved down the 3-rail track, probably the last in Denver.

South Denver, Colorado, 3/15/74
12. A s/b coal train was led by BN SD40-2 #6332, built 2//72, to BNSF #6332, renumbered #1913, + BN SD40 #6308, built 10//71, retired 4//87, to MRL/IMRL #211, + C&S SD40 #885, built 4//68, later C&S/BN #6345:2, retired 10//87, to MRL/IMRL #218, + C&S SD40-2 #913, built 5//72, later C&S/BN #6361:2.
13. A n/b train was led by C&S SD9 #835, built 4//59, to BN #6230, to BNSF #6124, to POTB #6124, with
14. CB&Q wood caboose #14442.

Great photos of the Koppers creosote operation near Denver & Rio Grande Western RR's Utah Junction north of Denver, CO.  That area was sold off by Koppers, reclaimed and redeveloped with warehouses - you wouldn't recognize it these days, Gerry.  You're right about the last 3-rail trackage in the Denver Metro area.

That 6332 ia pulling an ore train with those Jennys, not coal. I ran ran two of those trains, what a chore that was!!
