Seriously doubt picture 2 was taken in 1989. Feather River Canyon was nothing but Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Grey in 1989.

This isn't the Feather River Canyon.  The train is heading up the Fourth Sub along Indian Creek approaching Moccasin, same bridge as the first photo in this thread:

Between Sloat and Blairsden, CA.  That's the Middle Fork of the Feather River rather than the North Fork, which the railroad left way back at Paxton.
