Chinese Invasion of the Gorge

A pair of ex-CB&Q GP35's in Chinese Red lead a pair of BN SD45's in Cascade Green on a westbound train into Lyle, WA. May of 1972. BN #2541 ex-CB&Q #995 and BN #2536 ex-CB&Q #990 are trailed by the BN #6531 and BN #6495. #2541 was rebuild as GP39E #2929 and the #2536 was retired and scrapped in 1986. #6531 was retired in 1986 and became WC #6531, then WC #7518 in 1999 working into at least 2007. #6495 was retired in 1986 and presumed scrapped.

That’s a relatively uniform locomotive consist for the times! Certainly one of my favorite pieces of railroad.
