Nostalgia & History > Where The Olympian Hiawatha Once RanDate: 02/10/26 11:51 Where The Olympian Hiawatha Once Ran Author: walstib I took the back way home from Lind to Ritzville yesterday, and this scene along the way caught me eye, so I stopped for a photo.
A pole line, with some random wires, stands along Lind-Ralston Road, 46-years after the Milwaukee abandoned its route across Washington. The right-of-way is now home to the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail. There are interpretative signs, and maps at both Lind, and Ralston. There's a parking lot with a restroom at Ralston. Plans are also in the works for a former Milwaukee signal to go up along the right-of-way at Ralston, just south of Highway 261. Hopefully, that will happen in 2026. Stay tuned for that.
