Nostalgia & History > Good 1971 (?) article on Super CDate: 03/02/26 09:22 Good 1971 (?) article on Super C Author: timz Details about how it worked. "Mac Moore" means Joe McMillan?
I was surprised to see it might have FlexiVan cars -- wonder how long that lasted. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/02/26 09:24 by timz. I saw it this morning and noticed that TO members who actually took the time to read it so far didn't post any replies or opinions. The fact that this article included info about operations and the power that was assign to it was fascinating to me especially when I am an original East Coast resident and was sort of oblivious to western operations until I got older and many years ago found this great site called Trainorders.

I, too, was unaware Flexi-Vans were ever on the Santa Fe; I only thought of them on the NYC. Also did not know the C did any set offs or pick ups en route, which makes the schedule even more impressive. When I had the priveledge of dispatching for the Sante Fe 30 years ago, the 991/199 and 891/198 trains were prioritized just as the C was in the story. Even now, if I see "991" on a license plate or fast food receipt, my automatic reaction is to look at a computer screen and make sure it is lined up.
