Nostalgia & History > Westbound Wednesday - SP Employee Special With E9 6051Date: 03/18/26 08:26 Westbound Wednesday - SP Employee Special With E9 6051 Author: FiveChime Don't remember the specific date, but this was a special train SP ran for their employees from San Jose to Sacramento.
SP 6051 was point power on Saturday's round trip & SDP 45 3209 powered the westbound trip on Sunday. Nice sounding Nathan M5 horn from SDP45 3202. In 1990 Five Chime Consultants leased CSRM an old casting Nathan P5 horn which is amazingly still on the locomotive. First runby of Saturday's westbound train is at Pedrick Road out on the high speed Cal P west of Davis. Second, slower, coming into Berkeley. I really liked hearing the frogs chirping in the background. When would this line have received welded rail?

When would this line have received welded rail? I don't recall specific years, but I want to say the mid-1990s. A lot of work was put into the Cal-P during that timeframe to support the expansion of the Capitol Corridor timetable. New rail, CTC, and (if memory serves) a lot of new ties. I have a vague recollection that the SP started the project and the UP finished it. |
