Nostalgia & History > Another Baltimore Transit Company Streetcar SceneDate: 04/07/26 15:40 Another Baltimore Transit Company Streetcar Scene Author: ClubCar Back in 1949, two streetcars on the number 8 line pass each other on a busy odd street in Baltimore city. Check out the cars, the gas station, and the Coca Cola Truck in the photo, the way it used to be 78 years ago. This scene could be in many other cities across the country.

Thanks for sharing some major nostalgia. Love the autos back then including that Packard on the right. Kent in CArmel Valley Date: 04/07/26 16:07 Re: Another Baltimore Transit Company Streetcar Scene Author: train1275 Indeed excellent nostalgia !!
The Packard is nice, 1949 Eight or Super Eight? The Cola-Cola truck is cool ! So is the traffic light in the middle of the intersection. But what is this "thing" ? Date: 04/07/26 17:13 Re: Another Baltimore Transit Company Streetcar Scene Author: pwh The second photo must be a red light to protect the passengers who are going to board or get off the trolley going to the right. You take your life in your hands waiting there. I wonder what the accident rate was like through here?
Date: 04/07/26 17:36 Re: Another Baltimore Transit Company Streetcar Scene Author: refarkas That is the most confusing street I can recall seeing! I'd much rather take a streetcar than drive there.
Bob Date: 04/08/26 09:10 Re: Another Baltimore Transit Company Streetcar Scene Author: Gonut1 Those safety zones for the streetcars never looked very safe to me!
Neat look back to when i was 3 years old! Gonut Date: 04/08/26 19:58 Re: Another Baltimore Transit Company Streetcar Scene Author: rbenko Holy cow - don't stick your arm out the left side window if you don't want it to get torn off by an adjacent streetcar!
Besides everything else in this absolutely wild scene, how much space is there between those passing streecars? Looks like 12 inches max! |
