Nostalgia & History > Warbonnet ReduxDate: 04/07/26 18:35 Warbonnet Redux Author: rattenne In 1989 Santa Fe Railway resurrected their famous Red Warbonnet paint scheme, first applying it to the rebuilt FP45 fleet. Around 6am on August 16, 1989, I received a call from Santa Fe dispatcher Glen Icanberry alerting me to the power leading the 189 Train would be two of the FP45s and would be at Empire - soon!. I scrambled to get dressed and went trackside just in time to catch Nos. 100 & 104 spearheading that 189 Train. What a sight in the crisp morning sun! Even better, they paused to do a set out before proceeding.
Fast forward to Mach 24, 1990 and I caught Nos. 103 & 105 with a westbound just outside the Riverbank CA city limits. Little did we know that all new locomotive orders would subsequently wear the famous paint scheme. Those were exciting times!!! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/07/26 18:37 by rattenne. It was pretty easy to convince my dad to chase to the loop once he saw what caught my eye.
