Pavonia Engine Terminal in Camden, New Jersey by the mid-1970's was the place to find Baldwin diesels in their final days.  The Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines had dieselized with them back in the day and the Penn Central kept theirs in the Philadelphia area no doubt knowing the PRSL shop guys could keep them running.  I can only assume there was some sort of parts inventory remaining from the old Baldwin plant down in nearby Eddystone, PA.  Several cannibalized switchers could usually be found here as well.   All images from 1974.

I was at Pavonia in 1970 and the scene was much the same with Baldwins all over the place, many out of service, but also a number of Alcos and the same ground cover of oil and sand as in your shots.  Thanks for the post; it was a very interesting time.

Some railroads had deplorable housekeeping skills.

The Super-fund sites were often very expensive to clean up.
