Nostalgia & History > Muni - Then and NowDate: 04/08/26 17:06 Muni - Then and Now Author: dwatry Then and Now - two shots on Muni (San Francisco Municipal Railway) taken 49 years apart at the same location. (Well, maybe a few feet different.) My Muni postings over the last week caused me to want to go back and try to recreate the first shot. There are a lot more cars now and more aggressive drivers so I couldn't stand in the exact same spot or I'd get run over!
But my how the trees have grown in on Carl Street! And Muni has built bulbed-out boarding areas so more sidewalk area for passengers. 1) Inbound N-Judah PCC car at Carl & Cole in September 1977. 2) Inbound N-Judah S200 train at Carl & Cole yesterday (4/7/26). I like both but the first reminds me of what the City looked like in my day.

I don't get it and never will. I don't like all the clutter. And it costs money to maintain the trees and repair the sidewalks when the tree roots grow too big. And, for those of us who appreciate building architecture, these trees obscure the buildings, so in many cases they can hardly be seen. |
