Nostalgia & History > Last Time UP 4014 Went East Over Donner At BushDate: 04/09/26 08:05 Last Time UP 4014 Went East Over Donner At Bush Author: FiveChime With airplane and SD70 sound.
Looks like weather will be a little different this time. I plan to shoot going off from the hill west of this location on Sunday. I'd like to see that engine chug up the hill without Diesel assistance, but that is not going to happen...

I had some vicious uphill fights with 1522 and no diesel in the consist. Over our tonnage limit by a bit. I think some people's ears are still ringing. Last trip we had an Anthrax unit on the hind end and I didn't like too much help. Can't make everybody happy I guess. My question is this: on this steep grade, with the train it's pulling, don't those factors make for a strong draft, enough so that the engine wouldn't need a diesel helper??
I mean, compare it with Steve Lee, who ran 3985 everywhere, with a similar passenger train, and no diesel helpers. Did the 3985 fire and steam differently? Edited 1 time(s).
