Nostalgia & History > Warbonnet Wednesday - FP45s at WalongDate: 05/06/26 10:35 Warbonnet Wednesday - FP45s at Walong Author: GreenFlag Although under overcast skies, I was fortunate to catch three of the somewhat recently repainted warbonnet FP45s, the 103, 107 & 105 on the point of the eastbound 928 train at Walong (Tehachapi Loop) on 4-18-90.

You mean 97, all the FP45s went to the 90s numbering when The GP60Ms showed up! > You mean 97 No, I mean 95. When the FP45's were repainted in Super Fleet red and silver and renumbered from the 5990's into the 100's, they weren't renumbered in sequence, and only the 5990 got its as-built, 100-series number back. The renumbering came out like this: 5990 became 100 5991 became 104 5992 became 101 5993 became 106 5995 became 107 5996 became 103 5997 became 105 5998 became 102 In late April 1990 and early May 1990, when the GP60M's were about to show up as the new 100-series, Santa Fe briefly renumbered all but two of the FP45's back into the 5990's in their original sequence for about a month, then changed the number series again to the 90-class, with the units in their as-delivered order. So 5995 became Super Fleet 107, then briefly back to 5995, and finally to 95. Below is a photo I took of the 95 at the museum in Barstow, CA. From this angle, you can see the outline of the 100-series number underneath the paint patch for the 90-series number, and that number is 107: |
