Date: 05/31/26 20:28 Re: Sufficient Motive Power ??? Author: santafe199 No big deal! It was VERY common for Santa Fe to ferry extra power in one direction or the other by adding extra units to a given train. And if power was needed more urgently, Santa Fe would run large consists of lite units. 6, 8 and sometimes more units coupled up, usually eastward in direction. And boy howdy, were they FUN to catch... :^)
Lance Date: 05/31/26 21:06 Re: Sufficient Motive Power ??? Author: Evan_Werkema Looks like SD40-2, GP20, GP35, SD40-2, GP35, and GP35 for a grand total of 15,500hp on 28 axles with an average age of about 28 years. Four of today's GE/Wabtec products would be 17,600hp on 24 axles with an average age of...well it depends. Strange to say, the oldest Dash 9's running in road service on BNSF now are older than that GP20 was then, not that you're likely to get a solid set of goat boats and warbonnets over Tehachapi these days...
