Tower Tuesday: Santa Fe Junction 1977
Author: santafe199

The older a railfan shooter gets, the harder it is to remember shots taken so many decades earlier! I don’t specifically remember shooting this slide. So I really I can’t remember how bad I was trespassing to get it… ;^)

Thanks for looking back!

Wow! Thanks for sharing, sure looks a little different.  Where "might" had you been standing when this was taken?

Good question! So much has changed is this scene since '77. I think I'm looking north, which might put me up inside the old Frisco Interlocking tower, which was razed many years ago. So I can't check it out in Google Maps. I haven't visited that spot in a long time. Apparently SFe Jct Tower is also gone. someone more familiar with SFe Junction will have to help out here...

My guess is that you were on the KCT High Line trestle on the south side of the High Line bridge over the Kansas River; you were looking south at the north wall of the tower.  If so, you were in Kansas.  The tower still stands in Kansas.  Argentine Yard was off to your right.  The building in the distance stands on the northeast corner of West 31st and SW Trafficway and is currently One Park Place Luxury Condos (in Missouri).

Your guess is a winner. A little work in Google maps to get the GPS, then on to www.historicaerials with those coordinates and voila! www.historicaerials.com search 39.082209,-94.607569 - choose from a list of aerials 1930 to present.
