Engine looks so plain without a logo on the nose.

Very nice pics of the Comet. 1969 was the year we moved to a hill overlooking the old SAL mainline so I could watch the Comet go by in its final months. It's nice to see what might be an old pre-war coach buffet observation on the rear in the picture, as well as the RF&P "King" series sleeper in the train. Those RF&P sleepers were often on the Comet in the 60's. When I started firing into Richmond on the Star in 1973, there was still a RF&P "King" sleeper sitting stored in Broad Street Station.

The rear car looks like it may be one of the SAL pre-war obs coach buffet lounges that was converted from a round-end car.

Edit: Looks like Notch7 and I posted at the exact same time.

At this time, the Silver Comet had been cutback from Birmingham to Atlanta.

I rode RF&P King George northbound on the Silver Star circa 1969. IIRC, it was the last car on a long train. I was Dutch dooring it when the brakeman threw me out saying he wouldn't want me to get a cinder in my ah.
