Southern Pacific in the mountains, where at? early 70s
Author: KCRW287

This post has almost 6 minutes of the SP in the mountains somewhere. It is not in any chronically order, with some film damage in the first 2 minutes, but the content is ok. The photographer is unknown, my collection, digitally converted by Wally at Laser Film Lab in Kilgore Texas.

All Donner Pass.  A lot of it seems to be around Emigrant Gap, other sections appear to be in the Secret Town/Gold Run/Alta area.  Snow segments look to be up near the summit.

I know there will be many others who can give you specific milepost numbers.

At 0:01, looking NE from here

Someone might recognize that structure above
the tracks at 2:12, but I don't. Could it be the west
end of Tunnel 36 or 37?

At 2:49, the 3000-ft elevation sign

At 3:00, the wigwag is at the crossing at Alta

The last train crossed the Soda Springs crossing
eastbound at 4:47

At the very end, looking east from Newcastle
at a westward train leaving Tunnel 18

I assume that first passenger train at Emigrant Gap
is pre-Amtrak; the second one, with the F's,
is presumably after.

Thanks to JDLX, TIMZ and WAF for the replies and info on the locations, I figured it was in California, but I was at a lose as to where, thanks again, KCRW287

Really nice diversity in the boxcars!  Much more intersting then vs. now.
