One of my favorite Baltimore Transit Company Streetcar Routes was the #9 that operated from Downtown Baltimore out into Howard County to the historic Ellicott City, which was also the first terminal of the B&O Railroad.  This streetcar line operated over much private right of way just south of Main Street through the woods, heading towards Baltimore City.  This line was the very last line to still have the old Semi-Convertible Streetcars in operation until the spring of 1955, when it too was converted to bus operations.  The bus operation was a complete failure in that it could not make the trip time of the streetcars since the bus had to travel over many roads.  Within a few months, the bus was discontinued all together, due to the lack of riders, another worthless idea.  Here are two photos, the first taken in the early 1950's and a more recent photo the way that same area looks today.

Excellent "Then and Now" views - If time travel were possible, I think photo one would be a great place to visit.
