Unfortunately they were gone by this time.
However the Peoria and Quad Cities Rockets still had dining cars.

I remember in the late 1960s how travelers and crew onboard trains commented that Dearborn Station in Chicago was dark & dreary.  But that was basically a hallmark of all railroad stations in Chicago and other places too.  Unlike today where many airports use natural light and glass curtain walls, train stations were steeped in high contrast shadows with the light peaking in.  You caught that sensibility of light and shadow in this moment at La Salle.   Hard to believe the 20th Century Limited called there less than a decade before.
