Believe this is my only shot I managed of this particular Coal Train when it ran. BNSF SD70MAC's 9744-9933-9743 lead a SB BNSF "Trough Train" down Main 1 as the train approaches Canon City Jct in the BNSF Pueblo Yard . Not sure the actual date, as it was in my files from Oct 10 2014, but believe the train was gone by that date. Always thought this was aneat train and even tho I did manage to "see" it a few times, I only got this shot of it. What can anyone provide info wise on this train? How long did it operate? Where did it go? How many sets were there? Why did it seem to fade away?  Just curious. Thanks all, Ben

Not an expert but did catch one leaving Auburn Wa when they had just re-opened Stampede pass. As the cars passed by the overlapping sheet metal sides were making a shoosh-shoosh-shoosh noise and there seemed to be left bits of coal floating around. The info published later was the cars leaked too much and had maintainance issues and were scrapped just after I had seen them. At the time there was public comments about all coal trains putting out clouds of coal dust.

fwiw there's a 3d printed HO scale set of cars showing up in some of the RPM photos.

Nice catch. I have a shot of one of them pulling into Sedalia, CO, on DEC '99.

More than a pull apart.  The main sill between the B and C segments literally came apart.  The center sill broke pulling the car apart.  The pusher units pushed the rear portion of the train into the failed car turning the B ssegment into a ball of aluminum and steel, which ended up layong off the trak near the sight of the failure.  The car was parked in the next small set out track, and the train went on to Amarillo, and did not come back north.  Alas, I think all 23 cars were wscrapped.  Shame at least one could have gone to a museum somewhere.  It wask\ quite a sight to see all 23 cars loaded and climbing up to Palmer Lake (CO). with three units up front and IIRC two as rear DPUs.  One trip we caught had thrre by one arrangement, allo in green and cream.  With orange all over the place by then, a pure set was sure nice.

Here is the car that self destructed, it was set out at Tomah.
