Nostalgia & History > HereDate: 05/04/04 21:05 Here Author: africansteam Ya get one ex Rio Grande Krauss-Maffei diesel hydraulic numbered 9023, in the role of a diesel era SP Valley Mallet. Right behind that ya get a UP express boxcar in Armour yellow and a Main Central State of Maine Products" boxcar in red, white and blue, plus a string of other high cars stretching off into the horizon. On yer right ya gets a genuine SP bay window caboose and a tiger striped Alco. On yer left an immaculate 57 Ford, an early 50s Chevy coupe and a 56 Chrysler sedan plus a wig-wag signal. In addition, if look right now, ya get a glorious spring day in April of 1964 as seen from the SP station platform in beautiful downtown Lodi, California!
All this in a once in a lifetime photo by Morris Abbowitz, and all for the unbelievable price of a single frame of Kodachrome film. Africansteam Date: 05/04/04 21:38 Re: Here Author: M-420 In-freakin-credible
Whattya think? About mid 64? Isn't that about when SP bought the Grande's KM's? Amazing shot - many thanks for sharing Brian E Date: 05/05/04 05:47 Re: Here Author: grande473 If that SP caboose wasn't there it would almost look like a westbound coming through Canon City, CO. near the old D&RGW depot.

Date: 05/05/04 09:50 And to the right... Author: Westbound Outstanding photo. And to the right should be at least a couple of SD-9s for the branch in the little engine servicing facility. Not sure what the tiger striped engine is that we can barely see.

Date: 05/05/04 14:35 Re: K-M's Author: tracktime That's just nuts.. That's almost unimaginable that this was real life, except for being on a model railroad scene! Nice Alco switcher in the background too! Cheers, Harry Date: 05/06/04 00:46 Big Deal Author: Ed_Gyptian another crummy patch job.
