Nostalgia & History > Re: Mad Dog CroniclesDate: 10/20/04 11:59 Re: Mad Dog Cronicles Author: johncarr This was MDO's view of SP's new West Colton hump yard from the observation deck on the third floor of the administration building in February 1974. Maybe this picture will also qualify as bad weather since the smog was really bad that day.
John Carr in Dallas, Texas Date: 10/21/04 14:42 Re: Mad Dog Cronicles Author: roustabout Alright, MDO, how many cars in the bowl this day???
FWIW, our little yard that is at the center of our operation had a bad week recently and was overloaded with cars. One night we counted 352 cars in a 444-boxcar capy. yard. There was only one clear track. Difficult switching, by golly! Roustabout out Date: 10/22/04 07:54 Re: Mad Dog Cronicles Author: mdo Smog is not as bad as it can get since you can still make out the Riverside Avenue overpass.
Lots of clear rails over in the middle key and looks like some in the North key too. Although some of the key departure tracks look like they are almost full. I would guess that there are well under 1400 cars in the bowl at the point in time when this picture was taken. mdo |
