Two down, one to go

UP1317 actually began life in Pearlman Green as the WP1503, and the two B23–7’s once wore MP blue. As for the SP T–motor, we all know too well how that story ends.

What sort of camera format, and film stock, did you use for that UP 1317 etc photo? It's a beautiful B&W image, very classy look to it, nice tonal range, great density and such. I'm guessing medium format ...

Thanks!
Jeff Johnston

Minolta 35mm, but since I have three camera bodies I can't tell you if it was the SRT101, SRT201, or the XD11. The film is TRI-X.

as promised Dan (from our conversation last last Saturday), here is that photo of the former WP1503, nee-UP1317 in its current number assignment of UPY1042. Doesn't it look like it wants to fly away in the shot?!?

This was shot at the "deadline" at Taylor Yard in Los Angeles, CA back in April of this year. Though other units present were officially retired, this active ex-WP Crud was thrown in there temporarily for some reason. The unit luckily escaped with another life and is currently in Tucson, Arizona.

The UPY1040 (ex-WP1501) is also assigned to Tucson, AZ
The UPY1041 (ex-WP1502) is currently assigned to Houston, Texas

I took very few photos of them back in the day. It wasn't too often they got out on the road. 1501 is seen here trailing on an eastboud through Pleasanton in 1980.
