Back when the diesel commute fleet was more fun to watch. This was taken in Juy 1962. - Tony Johnson

This photo looks almost as if it were of a very well done model. I'm expecting a huge hand to reach into the scene move the Ford. Maybe its the soft lighting on the brick buildings. Whatever, it's a terrific photo.

It is a favorite of mine. Tom Dill used it in his "SOUTHERN PACIFIC'S SCENIC COAST LINE In color" book. - Tony

Possibly the depth of field?

Don't remember much about that day other than I was using my old Leica C-3 (or is it 3-C?), built in 1946. Still have it today. - Tony

Yes indeed, Tony, definitely more fun to watch back then than today.

Oh let's say it all together. Get ready. Go. "It's all CRAP now!" ( Which does not stand for Chicago, Rackenfratz, and Pacific ) There is nothing today that can compare with shot's like this. The equipment, and structures in the background are great! So... keep taking pictures, because in 50 years, these will be the "Good ol' days", God save you young guys!

Agree about depth of field. Also, the midday sky looks dark enough to be painted on. Perhaps due a polarizer?
