While at West Oakland I spotted a freight departing town with SP7026 - one of Espee's four U28Bs in the consist. The date is August 10, 1977. - Tony J.

I don't know if any U28's have survived, but U25B 3100 is preserved at Orange Empire, and is usually in running condition. (Can't be too certain about a locomotive that was built the same month that narrow-gauge streetcars quit running in Los Angeles, but the OERM volunteers have spent many hours dealing with various mechanical ailments to keep the old beast in service)
