Nostalgia & History > Albany, Calif.Date: 02/24/05 22:08 Albany, Calif. Author: stash The Masonic Tower in a Ralph Demoro photo. When SP's electric trains ceased operation in 1941, the tower no longer had a purpose. Santa Fe trains continued through the middle of the small city until 1979.
Today UP trains run across town with not even a blast of the horn a mile or two away, sans grade crossings. Date: 02/24/05 22:10 Re: Albany, Calif. Author: stash BART was building a rapid transit system in the late 1960s and Albany construction is evident in this photo. BART has no stop in Albany. For a time you could ride BART and keep an eye on the Santa Fe right of way below, similar to the layout in east Oakland on the ex-WP line.
