Replaced after years of service by new equipment, San Francisco PCC cars rest by the waterfront in the vicinity of Army Street.

Stash,
Nice shot. Somewhere I have some slides I took of the same batch, only there were at the edge of the pier and in sadder shape. - Tony J.

Amazing how fast those Gruman coaches faided away. Here in Phoenix most were gone while the city was still running some old GM and AMC coaches.

Interesting how nearly all of those in the photo are baby ten's and torpedoes. 1040 actually got there too, but by the time this photo was taken, it had already returned to the rails and run in the 1983 Historic Trolley Festival.

At least some of those torpedoes returned to service for the F Line.

OK, I give up - what type of car is a torpedo PCC?

A name given to the long, double end PCC cars on the Muni. They were converted from double-end two-man cars to single-end one-man cars years ago. I don't know how the "torpedo" name came about.

Numbered 1006-1015 as I recall.

At top speed through the tunnels, the body swishes like a fish
