The Pacific Northwest offered some interesting first generation GP’s in July ’83, at least for those willing to shoot in the rain or under heavy overcast–save Pasco, where ex-GN 628, a rebuilt 1951 GP7 was entering the yard from the south at sunset.

Between the intermittent rain ,1770 posed at Eugene. Built in 1957 as GN 697, this GP9 appears to have carried its BN number first to the Hillsdale County Railway and then its successor the Indiana & Northeastern Railroad.

Stored serviceable in the rain at Portland, the bell alone betrayed this 1955 GP9 as an ex-NP, the 225 to be exact. It became GP28M 1533 nine years later.

Built in 02/56, ex-NP 246 sitting at Klamath Falls in fading light also became a GP28M, the 1511.

Also in Portland, a member of the same order that produced BN 1869 above, this “Torpedo Boat” missed the trip to MK and went on instead to become D&I Railroad 24.

Which brings up something I've wondered about over the years.

What became of all the steam engine bells after they were replaced with diesel bells?

Nice shots...

For #1882, when you mention that it went to the Dakota & Iowa, I went on a search through my photos and I found a couple. Here is what she looked like 3/19/2004 with a chopped nose and all:
