Car float Friday
Author: erie833

It's July, 1976, and CP Rail S-2 7059 is done loading the car float at Windsor, Ontario across the river from Detroit. Looks to be mostly hi-cube auto parts cars that would not fit through the tunnel. I wonder if there are any remains of this operation rotting away down by the river.

Here's a photo my dad took in 1951.

There are some very nice remnants down by the river. Unfortunately, no camera with me so I can't post anything. The area has been turned into a part and the railroad nature of the area is very obvious.

I wish i could locate some of my photos of what things look like right now, but I can not remember what I stored them on my computer. The only real railroad stuff left on the Waterfront here in Windsor is the Boat Slips from the CN docks, CNR 5588, the old yard office that was converted into Washrooms and made to look like a station, and the Hiarm Walkers Grain facility in old Walkerville. I know lots has changed since the glory days, but with the Rail Tunnel in Windsor made larger for the larger cars, and CNs new tunnel in Sarnia, this is what basically killed both CN & CP's rail docks.

Anyone else have more pictures from the Windsor and area Post up, its always nice to see classic shots from this region.
