This train was 114 and the other that you thought might be 116 should have been 110. The eastbound UP train was the 268 and the CP coal was 897. Nice work, good to see you.

Did you notice the reefer containers on the eastbound BNSF can train? Looks like a lift of the Cold Train cars from Quincy,WA.

Cheers, A.J.

Great series of beautiful photos. In that second shot, GOD's house sure could use some divine intervention!

There has been some debate about the Notch Hill abandoned church. It has been derelict since the 1970's. One story about it is that it was never consecrated. There was a rift in the congregation and a splinter group decided to build another church. Before a service was held in it, there was a reconciliation and the congregation returned to the older church behind the community centre and railfan viewing platform. Some years ago, a fund raiser was held to restore the Notch Hill church, and the smaller white church was fixed up. It is a Catholic church, there is an Anglican Church in nearby Sorrento of similar vintage.

Another story is that there were insufficient members to keep it open, however many similar rural churches in Canada remain intact.

My dad was a Protestant Minister both in England and Canada. Often small churches remain in place because both the ministers or priests and nearby congregations make the effort to hold a service in them once or twice a year. Rarely are churches allowed to become derelict. He did conduct at least one "de-consecration" of a church sold for redevelopment. The area with the pulpit and religious artifacts is called the "sanctuary". The priest/pastor/minister asks God to make the sanctuary a holy place and similarly to return it to its earthly existence when no longer needed.

That hand pulling the 148' blade might be making some good money doing it, but I recall my days hauling over sized loads of only 110' long and I can rest assured that he's welcome to hauling that blade. Not only do Canadians have some of North America's best scenery now you are richer than we in the lower 48 are as well, or that's what MSN had on their homepage tonight. Your train pictures up there are really good. I wish that I had some mountains to shoot against here in northeast Texas, but?

Go and visit sometime. Aussies and Kiwis are always welcomed with open arms so I am sure Texans will be treated the same - especially in Alberta. It is too bad though that both countries [Canada and the USA] have crucified the great game of Rugby.

Missed you this time, Dale...give me a heads up next time you're in the area and I'll see if I'm free.
