Pictou NS service?
Author: truxtrax

I recently learned that my Scottish ancestors first settled in Pictou NS, and it appears from google maps that there is rail service here. I'm curious which carrier serves the community and if and how long ago they had passenger service here. And how frequent? I presume the closest crew base is Truro, right? Thanks for any help.

No trains to Pictou anymore. Closest they get is across the harbor at the pulp mill at Abercrombie Point and the Michelin Tire plant in Granton. Trains are operated by Rail America’s Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway which extends east to Sydney from a connection with CN at Truro.

VIA’s Montreal > Halifax “Ocean” also serves Truro (about 40 miles from Pictou)

The last passenger trains at Pictou came of around 1960.....a local from Stellarton to Pictou to Oxford Jct.

And this is probably the ship they arrived on.....a replica of "Hector" on the Pictou waterfront:
