Fraser Canyon Detours
Author: cp1400

Here's a few photos from Nov 26 showing westbound trains where they don't usually run these days. Trains are running both directions on CP track in the Fraser River Canyon due to the massive rock slide blocking CN near Lytton. Traffic was heavy with all sidings being put to good use by CP dispatchers.

1. CP's newest Gevo #9379 leads a westbound coal train past the west switch at Yale.

2. CN 5655 west has just met an eastbound at Choate and the engineer still has the headlight on dim.

3. CP 9664 west approaches the east mile board for Choate.

4. CP 8798 west is about to enter the first of two tunnels just east of Yale.

5. After a lengthy wait for 4 westbounds CP 8910 east finally pulls from the siding at Yale.

6. East of the town of Yale 8910 is well underway to its next meet at China Bar.

7. The CN crew on 8947 has just climbed on, closed the door, and is ready to head west on CP's Cascade Sub from North Bend.

8. Further up the canyon, actually along the Thompson River, a CP westbound waits for a signal into Thompson siding.

That's all from Nov 26. As of this writing CN is still blocked and trains are running both directions on CP.

You gotta wonder if the new CEO of CP RAIL will now re-think his decision regarding removal of some of these sidings??

Wow...reminds me of years ago when we used to make frequent trips up the Canyon...and everything ran both ways on both railroads...mostly sd40's then...thanks for sharing...would love to see more...how recent is the building in the picture at North Bend? I don't remember seeing it there a couple of years ago...
