Canadian Railroads > The operator at Galt StationDate: 12/02/12 17:56 The operator at Galt Station Author: chatnoir In my recent post of Nov. 26, I spoke of Art Merrifield, the operator at Galt who's friendship I was fortunate enough to cultivate. As I said, all he ever asked for was a double double from Tim Horton's.
I've come up with a photo of Art hooping #50 at Galt on a foggy and mild March 9, 1974. Number 50 usually arrived around 14:00 hours, and 99% of the time it would have three SW1200RSs in the 8100 series. Considering the power that was available, and having shot this train a number of times, pups were not too exciting. However, on rare occasions they would mix it up, so just in case I always hung around. On this day, in a rather unusual looking setup, 8141 and 8124, are spliced by RS10 8569. The second photo was taken in May 1974 at Ayr, Ontario. Art worked at the station in the background for a number of years until the operators job there was abolished, and he moved to Galt. RS3 8449, an SW1200RS, and an FA1 are in charge of this eastbound. Note the green flags. James Adeney Toronto Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 12/02/12 17:58 by chatnoir.
