First day of spring in the North Thompson
Author: eminence_grise

CN Vancouver-Edmonton general merchandise train 412 at Barriere BC on March 20th. There's just a hint of green in the grass around Railway Avenue.

The lead unit, a GE Dash 9 shows evidence of a stack fire, and the trailing unit, a Dash 8 is still in the CNNA Map paint scheme, which many thought was peeling paint at the time.

That photo is very enticing.  We have some friends who live at Birch Island and as soon as the weather looks like its
going to settle and stop snowing we're planning on heading up that way for a weekend.  Been cooped up here on the
coast for too long--two or three weeks and we should be good to go...

Birch Island is a favourite spot of mine too.  Driving from Kamloops to Barriere, 53kms , we noted that spring was not as far ahead as we went even that small distance north.

People who drive the Yellowhead Highway for a living will tell you there are three climate zones between Kamloops and Jasper, semi arid from Kamloops to Little Fort, rain forest from Little Fort to Avola, and full on Rocky Mountain blizzards from Avola  to Valemount and east to Jasper.
