On The Mainline of Mid America
Author: CP_M260

Back in October of 2016, a friend and I made a trip South to Memphis, TN to chase the Grenada Railway's 2016 Batesville Express between Horn Lake and Batesville, MS.

Before that occurred, we took a shot in the dark and tried to find some action on the ex. Illinois Central mainline between Memphis and New Orleans. After a breif wait, we were rewarded with Southbound train A420 (Memphis, TN - Geismar, LA).

The train had an ex Oakway SD60 & a GTW GP40-2 for power, and per scanner chatter, a little over 9,200 feet of train on the drawbar.

We first intercepted the train at Sarah, MS and ended our chase approx. 3 hours later on the platform of the ex. IC depot in Greenwood, MS.

Two photos & one video posted below.

1. Rolling South at Sarah, MS
2. Leaving the siding after a meet at Crenshaw, MS
3. Video - locations noted within

All media recorded Oct 22, 2016.

Thanks for looking,
-Dalton

Now I know why Amtrak is always late !!! Trying to get around that monster of a train with barely enough power , god help if one engine craps out!!! :) But I did enjoy the first part of the video with those engines in "run 8" was nice!!! :):):)

Great video!

It still amazes me that was once a Crown Corporation stretching from Newfoundland to BC and into the NWT.....is now operating in Mississippi and as far south as Louisiana.

It's not the Main Line of Mid America anymore.

Thanks for sharing the video. Great! The second unit doesn't look like an ex-Oakway SD60 though, was it repainted?

Yep, it is only about one third of what the Main Line of Mid America was. Great shots! Appreciate seeing the 5405 on the point. Sounds like it acquired an IC 1000 series horn without all the residual air after the cadence is complete.

It's not. The Oakways are 5400's. The 6400's are GTW GP40-2's.

GTW 6425 is the former DT&I 425.
