CN 120 Double Meet
Author: Ray_Murphy

CN 120 is a long train (I have counted as many as 216 platforms on it), and today I was treated to a double meet because of its length.

Via 633 is scheduled to depart Central Station at 8:40 AM, and 63 follows it at at 8:55. It usually takes about 15 minutes to get to the St-Jacques overpass on the border between Montreal West and Ville-St-Pierre. By 9:00 nothing had passed, and that’s when the signal on the north main went green for an eastbound, indicating 120 was on its way.

Picture #1 (9:12:35) shows 120 approaching from the west (trains move at a restricted speed through the extended Turcot construction zone that starts at this point)

Picture #2 (9:14:58) shows 120 from the other side of the overpass. Quite a few cars have already passed. Also note the construction work going on alongside the tracks - new ditching and the removal of the pole line.

Picture #3 shows Via 63 arriving first (9:16:25), more-or-less on time.

Picture #4 shows 120’s DPU (9:18:16), and then Picture #5 shows the late Via 633 coming by (9:21:30). 120 still has a few more cars to go before it’s completely past my spot!

The Sunday version of Via 633 is a train with a supplementary equipment repositioning task, and pictures #6, #7 and #8 show the other locomotives in today’s complete trainset.
