A clean CP ES44AC and a dirty one
Author: Mberry

Loaded ethanol train CP 650 is seen in Beaconsfield, Qc yesterday afternoon. Up front is surpisingly clean CP 8723, with another, much dirtier ES44AC (CP 8735) bringing up the rear of this 100-car train.

A really nice curve on the pusher shot. Just for anyone to weigh in on this, if it all goes off the rails, literally, is that empty boxcar or covered hopper going to save the crew? It seems a bit optimistic.

If it's a pusher or DPU unit, it probably isn't manned.

As mentioned, the rear engine is a DPU and not manned, as well the buffers are filled, I believe with sand. Whether that would help much, I can't say. Interestingly enough a unit train like this does NOT require any buffer cars in Canada. As this train originates and terminates in the U.S., it has buffer cars.
