Canadian Railroads > MLW Monday on NB SouthernDate: 02/12/18 08:33 MLW Monday on NB Southern Author: cn6218 During New Brunswick Southern's early years, they leased some power from CP before they built up their own fleet (Omnitrax GP9s, and later rebuilt GP35s). On April 8, 1996 I happened upon two examples of these CP diesels working the west end of Island Yard in Saint John, NB. RS-23s 8024 and 8021 were bracketing former QNSL GP9 3700, probably preparing to drag a transfer "over town" to the former CP yard at Dever Road. Saint John had been home to several RS-23s in CP days, and a few stayed around (I shot 8033 a year earlier) for a while with the new owner. I recall seeing pictures of RS-18us on the road freights early in 1995 or '96. The weather was living up to Saint John's reputation on this trip. :-(
