Laggan -Mountain Tour
Author: KickingHorse

I offered to be a tour guide for a visiting TO member from Illinois and met him and his friend at The Banff Station this morning. "Where would like to go?" "Field". Perfect! I knew there was westbound coming so we could shoot that at Banff then chase it west.

Train 401 at Banff West.

401 at Castle Mountain

We stopped in Lake Louise so the visitors could see and shoot the train station there and some MOW snow fighting equipment. There was an eastbound grain empties waiting on the south track for 401 but difficult to get a shot (sun wrong side too) so it was back to the TCH to keep heading west.

401 on the North track west of Louise

And then arriving at Field. It's solid overcast now everywhere to the west.

It's lunchtime and there isn't really much in Field so it's off to Golden.

After lunch a tour of coal train yard in south Golden.

Time to head back east and there is a 112 in the mainline yard (KC) waiting for 401.

112 at Glenogle taking the siding

112 took the siding for 101 to go down the main. (too bad the main is behind the siding)

Continuing east it's grab a quick shot of the Field station and an already departing grain empties.

Now we're back in Alberta and westbound 301 grain train got a good PK at Lake Louise. We catch it on the North track.

The train that gave the 301 a good PK had departed Lake Louise right after 301 went by. It got a 292 axle count at 111.0, maybe a 400 manifest. it was highballing and we didn't quite catch up to it at Castle but did before it got to Banff.

Here it is at Banff East.

I dropped the visitors off back at the Banff station and headed back to Canmore. It was a 400 and they have a 58 car lift to do at Exshaw but before that they have to take the siding at Gap for a westbound.

Looks like it was a sunny, sunny day out on the prairies as a westbound 201 goes by Gap Lake.

Very nice. I'll bet the visitors had a great time.

And by the way, those are Trumpeter Swans, not Snow Geese...

So a day after I comment that it had been a long time since I had seen a KCS unit on the Laggan (and even longer for a CN unit) you catch one!

Thanks Joe. Hope your trip back to Chicago on the Builder goes well.
