Canadian Railroads > Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in VancouverDate: 05/25/18 12:46 Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: Marcus A new dismal milestone for the westbound VIA #1, "The Canadian".
It arrived in Vancouver 45 hours late. The delay consisted of about 22 hours late on departure, and about 23 hours lost in transit. Further breakdown, and very rough numbers, Toronto to Winnipeg lost about 2 hours. Winnipeg station stop gained over 1 hour. Winnipeg to Jasper lost about 23 hours. Jasper to Vancouver actually gained back about one hour. Here's the time sheet, http://reservia.viarail.ca/tsi/GetTrainStatus.aspx?l=en&TsiCCode=VIA&TsiTrainNumber=1-&TrainInstanceDate=2018-05-19 Date: 05/25/18 12:47 Re: Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: Marcus After one last 20 minute delay for a bad power switch, VIA#1 is on the final stretch through Burnaby, B.C.
Date: 05/25/18 12:50 Re: Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: Marcus Today's Amtrak train 517 southbound for Portland, Oregon, is leaving the VIA Vancouver coach yard,
while VIA#1 of two days ago, is backing in. Date: 05/25/18 12:51 Re: Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: cozephyr Sorry to hear Canada's VIA #1 is encountering such dismal time keeping. Tough times on a once amazing train.
Date: 05/25/18 12:53 Re: Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: Marcus The front end of VIA#1 is making its final move backing into Vancouver's Pacific Central Station.
The rear of the train is already spotted to the left. Date: 05/25/18 12:56 Re: Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: Marcus This train made it to the news.

What is last car 'not' doubled over? t4p. Date: 05/25/18 13:07 Re: Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: Marcus Yes, the same consist is due out tonight.
Different locomotives, though. Three different locos were being serviced as it came in. How much rest is the crew entitled to ? Date: 05/25/18 13:21 Re: Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: Marcus The cut for doubling varies. This time, it was after the glass-roofed coach 1721.

I don't know how much time the on-board crew is entitled to, but in Toronto they don't get much when the train is late. The departure is often just seven hours after arrival. Friday's departures from Vancouver have a Vancouver-based on board crew with just a few exceptions. As for the locomotive crew, perhaps someone knows the minimum rest period. When we rode No. 2, we felt so sorry for the Winnipeg based crew. How in the world do you live your life, when the train might be on time one day or be NINETEEN HOURS LATE the next day? Best thing is to ignore him. Well, I've ridden trains all over the USA and in Europe. I paid my $7,000.00 US to book No. 2 and rode it, until it became unbearable. I know you guys don't like me, but how does that make me a "troll?" Of everyone here, my trip on No. 2 is probably one of the most recent. When did YOU ride it last???? Date: 05/25/18 18:04 Re: Pictures of record breaking VIA#1 arriving in Vancouver Author: keelhauled Of all the hills to die on, I don't understand why a subpar train ride would be the one to choose. Life is full of disappointments, no point in chewing on one in particular.

You know, you’re right. My life is so perfect otherwise, that “chewing” on our No. 2 ride is pretty much just entertainment. Better than watching “Growing Up Hip-Hop” on the tube. So easy does it on your current harsh comments! U asked so I'll tell you: my last trains 1 - 2 trip departed WPG mid March and was wonderful!?!
