Canadian Railroads > September memories in WinnipegDate: 09/19/18 14:58 September memories in Winnipeg Author: xcnsnake Back when I was a kid, for several years I would spend my summers in Winnipeg, at the end of holidays my Grandpa would drive me to the station for the return trip home on CN's Super Continental. He was a Signal Maintainer nearing retirement and, after years of being on the road, held a job in the Winnipeg Terminal. The CN Signals Shop was in the East Yard located behind the depot. This was the "back way" in and as an 8-yr old I found this to be somewhat exotic! For several years now, the surrounding area has been gentrified and re-purposed as "The Forks" with a market etc. I stopped by for a visit the other day and grabbed a couple of pics as a w/b freight and a light engine move went by above the "special" entrance:)
