CN S13 8515 with cars at Toronto Union Station -- Dec 80
Author: gcm

(1) 8515 is pulling cars from the recently arrived Super Continental (with me aboard).

(2) I had a roomette from Vancouver on this ex-CN car, Emerald (excellent trip).
Built in 1954 by Pullman-Standard as a 4 section-8 duplex roomette-4 bedroom car.
Unlike Amtrak that did not sell sections on the few cars they ran with them, VIA certainly did sell the space and very succesfully.

Looking good. Toronto Union Station was a great place to railfan in the 1970's/1980's.

I had a “lower” on the “Evangeline” from Winnipeg to Vancouver on the Super Continental in Feb 1988– my first “real” vacation— a railfan’s dream— two weeks of riding North and West of Toronto—including Moosonee, ONT and Prince George, B.C.. Looking back, one of my all-time great trips!
Thanks for sharing these at Toronto —I love that city! For a brief time in ‘87-‘88, I was the cafe car attendant on the “International” out of Chicago. I would report for the WB train at the VIA commissary in the station— a very busy place. I even saved some of the VIA paper napkins that I still have in my hoard( uh, collection!).

Of course VIA still sells sections...or "births" on the Canadian. Three sections per car. The fourth was converted to a shower for all in the car. They are very reasonably priced and popular with Canadians, who according to some, never use the train.

I also rode the Emerald from Vancouver to Regina in 1986.  Or maybe 85?

In any case, it was my first experience in a section, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

And if anybody has a Rapido HO scale Emerald in their collection they would part with, let me know!

The question should be how many births were caused by activities in the berths? Just saying Cheers
