a bunch for on this day
Author: hoggerdoug

On this day, ten years ago, November 26, 2008 it was a nice day for a train ride. Views from the cab of BCOL 4623 as we head south from Prince George BC, on train 570 on the BC Rail Prince George subdivision, our ultimate destination and home terminal Williams Lake.
images:
01  Stone Creek bridge mile 444.3
02  just past SNS Woodpecker and New Dale road.
03  fill at mile 436.1, a few years previous, the culvert plugged and the water collected on the left side. The railway got some heavy duty pumps to lower the water level but could not keep up with the volume of water. There was a MoW foreman on site 24 hours to monitor the water and fill as well as to ensure it was safe for trains to crossover the fill. I had the experience of being the last train over before it was deemed unsafe for anymore traffic. As we crept over at 5 mph, the fence posts were hanging in the air and it it seemed like a whole lake had formed, I have no idea how serious it was although the MoW person contacted the RTC after our train passed over and deemed the track impassable. A special horizontal drilling machine was brought in and drilled two pipe culverts through the fill to lower the water. Once the water receded and things dried out, new culverts were installed including one for overflow water.

three images south of Cotwood. Riding off into the sunset. Nice scenery although there was some "tension and stress" as we were descending a 2 point 2 percent grade.

image 13, at Gibraltar, mile 344 just ahead on the left.

14 & 15 at Williams Lake BC, end of the trip and a bonus of a "yard office" crew change rather than pulling through the yard to the southend.

thanks for looking.   Doug

Nice series, Doug.

Many would envy your "office" location.

Sometimes I envied the railfans taking images of trains, might have been more fun than being in "the office".
